The Complete Cost Nintendo Wii Versus Xbox 360

In this article I will take a look at the cost Nintendo Wii has versus an Xbox 360. The reason for these two units is because currently they are probably the most popular console gaming systems on the market today. While I could take a look at the cost Nintendo Wii has against a Sony Playstation 3, I decided instead to look at these two because they are in my mind the most prevalent. For each of the systems I will try to do as accurate a comparison as possible. The Nintendo Wii system price is pretty much standard across the board as is the Xbox 360’s so this comparison should be pretty straightforward.

Looking At The Cost Nintendo Wii Has Versus Xbox 360

I decided to basically compare the cost Nintendo Wii has for a simple console and two controllers versus the same thing for the Xbox 360. While I realize that the Wii has a great many accessories and these accessories will effect the long term cost of the system, but if you look close enough you will see that just as many accessories exist for the Xbox as well. So I decided it probably is best to just look at a basic unit and compare going from there. This way you can most effectively look at the basic start up cost Nintendo Wii has versus the Xbox unit.

The closest bundle I found that met this criteria for the Wii was the Nintendo Wii Two Person bundle. This bundle includes two controllers, two nunchukas, the system, everything to connect it up and couple of basic starting games. The low cost Nintendo Wii bundle runs around four hundred forty dollars at its cheapest. Not a bad price considering everything you get, but we will have to see if the Xbox can do better.

For the Xbox 360 I was unable to find a two controller bundle, so I decided to go with a simple core system and an extra controller. The core system is currently listed at $199. Cost of additional controller is around forty dollars for a wireless and thirty dollars for a wired controller. This unit however does not come with any games or a hard drive to save anything on. You can upgrade the bundle to include the hard drive for around sixty more dollars, meaning that a comparable Xbox 260 system to the Nintendo Wii will cost around $299. That is a savings of a hundred and forty dollars off the cost of the Wii. This is quite a bit, so if you are budget conscious and need to get and affordable system then the Xbox is probably the way to go.
